Don Sipes is a Life Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and is certified as a professional and executive coach. After fifty years of work in the healthcare field—more than forty years in management and more than thirty years as a Chief Executive Officer and Health System Executive—he retired in 2018. In 2019, he founded the company that bears his name. During his career, he provided direct leadership in a number of settings from small stand-alone hospitals to large complex health systems, including service as president of their local boards. He has direct, hands-on experience in integrating community hospitals into a health system, as well as developing strong clinical best practice relationships and approaches between specialty providers and community clinic and hospital settings. He has provided organizational development services at the system level in the areas of leadership and collaboration. He has also served in advisory capacities for undergraduate and graduate academic centers. He has mentored scores of graduate students, fellows, early-careerists and mid-careerists as they seek to enter and advance in management roles.
Don holds an undergraduate degree in Zoology (pre-medicine) from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a graduate degree in healthcare management from Central Michigan University. He was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists during five decades, and served as Regent for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). He served on the Missouri Hospital Association (MHA) Board of Trustees for twelve years, and was Chair of the Board in 1995. He also served on the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board, and provided advocacy on public policy issues in Washington, DC and in two states. This included direct policy discussions with a sitting US president, a House Majority Leader, numerous congressional and state legislators. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the MHA Distinguished Service Award and the ACHE Senior Level Regent’s Award.
Don is the author of A Culture of Leadership—Lessons Learned and Shared, published in January, 2021. He lives in Kansas City, Missouri.
